The Tree

A simple tree can take you back in time. Yesterday, I took my wife and son through my old neighborhood. As we departed, we passed by where the Burris’s once lived, and there I saw the tree.

I fell out of that tree about 30 years ago. As I laid flat on my back gasping for air, I wondered if it might be the end. That’s what you think when you are nine and overcome with that terrible feeling of having the wind knocked out of you.

On a regular basis we fall on the flat of our backs. Sometimes, we think it is our end. But eventually we gain our breath back. We stand, brush ourselves off, and realize that falling is a fact of life. We just need to remember to get up!

That looks like an awesome climbing tree!  Hard for any 9 yo boy to resist!!  I remember I had asthma as a kid and would often get tickled into a fit of breathlessness.  It’s a most terrifying feeling and to this day, my worst nightmare is suffication.  Today it’s panic attacks and again, I just need to remember to breathe, breathe, b-r-e-a-t-h-e.  Our bodies are wonderously made.  Our lungs give us all the oxygen we need, I just need to remember to breathe…  ahhhh.  Thanks for making me think of breathlessness today, Doug and remembering to BREATHE.  Have a beautiful day!!  love to you and Tisha and the kids.
