Great post Doug! Seems our thoughts were a bit in the same direction today.

My heart is heavy because of “sin in the camp” and the church family is left in the dark, unable to pray for certain situations and unable to encourage. Not because of our leaders but because of the indifference of the individuals.

I pray we start “walking our walk” as if Jesus was coming today.

Our great struggle as leaders in the 21st century church will be fearlessly rediscovering our core values, scraping off the barnacles of tradition and assumption, so that we will have a better idea of when to say, “We will miss you.”

For some reason, I didn’t want to argue with your commenter on FB, but you can’t grab Jesus’ method in John 6 and glibly extrapolate a way of dealing with people who challenge *anything* we might believe is true. Jesus was:
a) revealing his own Messianic identity/vocation and
b) doing it in such a repugnant-to-traditional-Jews way that the crowds, bent on a glorious king, would reject him.

But back to the point at hand — Yes, we need to learn to lovingly walk away and to continue manifesting the Jesus way of compassion and truth. I still believe some of the people who left in John 6 were baptized in Acts 2.
